Hybrid Theatre

Refurbishment   |   Healthcare   |   NHS   |   36 Weeks   |   £3.9M

Project Overview

Nevada Construction delivered the construction and fit out works to provide a highly specialised IR Theatre, including a Prep Room, Anaesthetic Room, Control Room, Clean and Dirty Utilities, and associated stores. The scheme also included four recovery bays, providing a complete clinical pathway within a single integrated environment and supporting safe, efficient patient flow. Delivered within a live hospital setting, the works required intricate structural integration and careful services coordination to accommodate advanced imaging equipment and specialist clinical systems.

Our Approach

Delivering above a fully operational Emergency Department required detailed site logistics and temporary works planning, carefully considered strategic programming, and continuous collaboration with clinical teams and the Trusts Safety and Fire Advisors.

We proactively organised and implemented the structural works required to meet Philips Healthcare’s installation programme, ensuring each stage was delivered to their specific requirements. Complex commissioning was then coordinated across specialist equipment and associated building systems, with close collaboration between the client team, healthcare installers and our own supply chain.

Impact

The new state-of-the-art hybrid theatre will enable the hospital to treat around 1,200 extra patients each year in Devon, strengthening surgical capacity and reducing pressure on existing facilities. By combining diagnostic imaging and surgery in one environment, the space supports fewer procedures, reduced risk of complications, and faster recovery times.

Ultra modern equipment and a purpose built layout will help reduce time spent in hospital and improve clinical decision making during procedures, supporting the delivery of modern care and better outcomes for patients across the region.
