Nevada Construction was appointed to deliver a major extension to Duchy Hospital in Truro, one of Cornwall’s most respected private hospitals. Commissioned by Ramsay Health Care, the works involved the construction of a new single-storey diagnostic wing to the northern side of the hospital, comprising new MRI, X-ray and radiology facilities designed to expand capacity and improve service delivery. In tandem with the building works, the scheme also included a substantial extension to the existing car park. This element of the project was delivered early in the programme to ease pressure on site access and parking during the construction phase, while also laying essential groundwork for the hospital’s continued growth.
Delivering the works within a live hospital environment required a carefully phased construction strategy, with a strong emphasis on stakeholder communication and safety management. A major complexity was the volume and coordination of rooftop plant associated with the diagnostic facilities, particularly the MRI suite, which required significant structural support and M&E integration. Through close collaboration with our supply chain and design partners, we delivered this critical component without impact to ongoing hospital operations.
The new imaging facilities are purpose-built to accommodate advanced medical equipment and support the delivery of faster, more efficient diagnostics in a calming, modern environment. These improvements will help reduce waiting times and streamline patient pathways, supporting timely access to treatment and improved clinical outcomes. The car park extension has also had an immediate and positive impact, easing congestion and improving the overall experience for visitors and staff alike. Taken together, these upgrades reflect Ramsay Health Care’s commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care in a setting that meets the growing demands of the region.
