Lyd Ward Refurbishment Works

Project Value: £1.3M

Client: Plymouth University Hospital Trust

The Lyd Ward scheme has involved a large amount of demolition of existing concrete partitions to facilitate the complete refurbishment and reconfiguration of the ward. All existing Mechanical and Electrical Service installation were removed to allow for a full upgrade and re-route of supplies back to the level 5 plant room. This involved altering the pipework routes so the ward has been top fed instead of fed from the floor below. The ward now benefits from a brand new fully fitted out Pantry together with a new Dirty Utility and several consultation/exam rooms which have been fully refurbished. We have provided new ambulant WC’s, semi-ambulant WC’s and Independent wheelchair accessible WC’s and shower rooms all constructed in a Dementia Friendly colour scheme. The bedded wards have had a full refurb to include all new M&E, decoration, ceilings, lighting and medical trunking. In two of the bedded wards we have also installed the latest patient hoists to facilitate the clinical team in moving patients. The nurse station and all staff areas have benefited from a light refurb with the whole ward having new doors and flooring. In addition to all of the items easy to see, we have had to incorporate a large amount of fire compartmentation works ensuring that all new walls are compliant as well as needing to remove and/or upgrade existing walls. Fireproofing has been carried out to all penetrations where required and the wards fire alarm system and Nurse Call system has also been replaced.
