Complete Refurbishment of Clyst Ward, RD & E Hospital (Wonford), Exeter

A Major Refurbishment of the Acute Stroke Unit Clyst Ward, RD&E Hospital, Exeter

Project Value: £962K

Client: Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Trust

The ward, which is based at the end of E-Link corridor, has undergone a significant facelift as well as having important fire improvement work undertaken over a tight 12 weeks.

Clyst now has a brand new ceiling with skylights to let in more natural daylight to the ward, with a bright new nurses’ station area and a new corridor to enable circular access around the ward. Each bay has been given a new lick of paint in different colours and new bedhead trucking has been installed with oxygen and a vacuum for every patient. And the old strip and wash bathroom has been replaced with a brand new wet room with space for hoist equipment to enable more patients to have a proper shower whilst being cared for on the ward. Alongside this, the ward has had new fire alarms and emergency lighting fitted, a full electrical re-wire and had a new duct system installed ready for a new vent system which will be put in next summer.
