Lyd Ward Refurbishment Works

The Lyd Ward scheme has involved a large amount of demolition of existing concrete partitions to facilitate the complete refurbishment and reconfiguration of the ward. All existing Mechanical and Electrical Service installation were removed to allow for a full upgrade and re-route of supplies back to the level 5 plant room. This involved altering the pipework routes so the ward has been top fed instead of fed from the floor below. The ward now benefits from a brand new fully fitted out Pantry together with a new Dirty Utility and several consultation/exam rooms which have been fully refurbished. We have provided new ambulant WC’s, semi-ambulant WC’s and Independent wheelchair accessible WC’s and shower rooms all constructed in a Dementia Friendly colour scheme. The bedded wards have had a full refurb to include all new M&E, decoration, ceilings, lighting and medical trunking. In two of the bedded wards we have also installed the latest patient hoists to facilitate the clinical team in moving patients. The nurse station and all staff areas have benefited from a light refurb with the whole ward having new doors and flooring. In addition to all of the items easy to see, we have had to incorporate a large amount of fire compartmentation works ensuring that all new walls are compliant as well as needing to remove and/or upgrade existing walls. Fireproofing has been carried out to all penetrations where required and the wards fire alarm system and Nurse Call system has also been replaced.

Medical outpatients involved a full redecoration of the entire department with several rooms receiving refurbishment works which included full room reconfiguration with demolition, new internal and external doors, IPS, wall cladding, crash protection, ceilings, kitchens, Dirty utility, stores and fire proofing upgrade and new dampers and damper panel install along with a full nurse call fire alarm and emergency lighting install. These works happened in a busy live environment ensuring all NHS services were maintained. SDEC involved a full refurb to create 7 triage bays various MDT spaces new dirty utility drug store waiting area accessible WC and 2 main receptions as well fire proofing upgrade with new fire/smoke dampers and damper panel install along with a full nurse call fire alarm and emergency lighting install. All this work was phased to ensure that both units had maximum live space whilst ensuring the project was delivered within the tight 12 week progamme

Nevada Construction were appointed to provide their services for this new clinically led transformation programme called My Care. A new state of the art Electronic Patient Record System. Nevada are highly experienced in working within a live clinical environment. having completed many projects for RD&E and associated hospitals. This project involved intrusive cable work above ceiling level including new boxing, wall panelling. Extreme care was taken not to disrupt the every day running of the hospital and hygiene measures were followed to ensure the safety of the department at all times.

This provides an impressive modern learning environment for the University of Exeter College of Medicine & Health Clinical Skills Resource Centre located at Heavitree Hospital, Exeter.

The ward, which is based at the end of E-Link corridor, has undergone a significant facelift as well as having important fire improvement work undertaken over a tight 12 weeks.
Clyst now has a brand new ceiling with skylights to let in more natural daylight to the ward, with a bright new nurses’ station area and a new corridor to enable circular access around the ward. Each bay has been given a new lick of paint in different colours and new bedhead trucking has been installed with oxygen and a vacuum for every patient. And the old strip and wash bathroom has been replaced with a brand new wet room with space for hoist equipment to enable more patients to have a proper shower whilst being cared for on the ward. Alongside this, the ward has had new fire alarms and emergency lighting fitted, a full electrical re-wire and had a new duct system installed ready for a new vent system which will be put in next summer.

An eight phased live refurbishment of 16 rehabilitation apartments. The works included replacement kitchens and bathrooms to suit a new revised fire compartment and DDA layout. Specialist health care fixtures and fittings, IPS units and fire doorsets were installed, as well as a complete upgraded nurse call system and a full mechanical and electrical redesign. The works were then complimented by new floor coverings and a full redecoration. The most challenging aspect of this project was working around the highly sensitive and secure live rehabilitation environment where we continually worked on segregating and screening our works and collaborating with the centre to ensure the most minimal amount of disruption was created during our works.

Remodelling Works to provide a new secure Reception area with offices and disabled WC, new extension and new access road.

The works comprised of remodelling to provide a new secure Reception area with offices and disabled WC, a complete new extension building to the rear courtyard to allow full access to the upper floors. External landscaping was also carried out including the construction of a new access road.
The Cedars is a dedicated unit providing psychiatric inpatient care for assessment and treatment of both men and women of working age with mental health problems. There are 2 wards, Coombehaven and Delderfield, both of which were in full 24 hour operation throughout the building works and operated as a secure unit.
Disturbance to the regular routine of the unit and disruption of services had to be avoided and minimised especially with regard to dust and noise. Security was a major factor that effected all our operations; our working areas and compounds were secured at all times using heavy duty hoardings and barriers to protect both staff and patients from our works.

Access corridor and play area walls decorated in a vinyl printer artists impression of a beach scene. Removal of existing vinyl floor and replaced with laser cut Linoleum designed to replicate a beach with washing wave effect and the installation of new IPS fabricated play equipment consisting of Beach Hut with play kitchen and interactive games console, Hammock bench and parasol.
